Located just 5 km north of Grande Prairie is the Hamlet of Clairmont; once known as The Hub of the Wheat Belt. In Alberta, a hamlet is a community which has more than four dwellings, a specified boundary, a name, and land used for non-residential purposes. Walter McFarlane surveyed this area in 1909 and named Clairmont Lake after his hometown of Claremont Ontario. Clairmont’s close proximity to Bear Lake; ideal from fishing to water-skiing or to simply relax on the beach and the Clairmont Lake & Ferguson Lake are favorites whether you’re spinning, bait casting or fly fishing your chances of getting a bite here are good.
